Fans of Stranger Things have been voicing their concerns about the show’s “plot holes”. These questions are mostly criticisms that arise due to a lack of understanding of the show’s plot points. In this article, we will try to answer some of the most common criticisms.
Why were there no Demogorgons in the final battle?
The Duffer Brothers addressed this criticism, explaining that “Vecna was not expecting this sneak attack on his home turf. Never in a million years could he even imagine that. They’re there somewhere.”
However, many fans found this explanation unsatisfying, including us. We believe that the Demos were used as material to create the Meat Flayer. If you recall in S3, the Mind Flayer formed a body using people and rats.
How did Will Byers defeat Vecna without pain? Why did he not die along with Vecna and the Mind Flayer?
Will had mastered control over the hive mind. He could attach and detach from it at will.
Who else have we seen not feel the pain when a part of the hive mind is injured? Vecna. In Season 5, we saw Vecna coming to rescue the Demogorgons from the military when they were being burnt.
When Will learned to use Vecna’s powers, he also learned to detach from the hive mind, just like Vecna. It is for the same reason, he didn’t feel any pain when he snapped the limbs of those Demogorgons in Episode 4.
How did Vecna and the Mind Flayer lose so easily if they were so powerful?
If you compare the final battle to the events from the previous seasons, there are major differences.
In the first and second seasons, our heroes didn’t even know what they were up against (the Demogorgon and the Mind Flayer), let alone their weaknesses. Through the course of events, with a lot of trial and error and sacrifices, they pieced things together.
At the end of the third season, Eleven had lost her powers so couldn’t fight the spider monster. They relied on Joyce and Hopper to close the gate.
Since Eleven had lost her powers, she couldn’t help until later in the fourth season.
We must remember that before the final battle, Eleven had trained really hard to master her powers and use them more creatively. Not to mention her powers had come back stronger than ever after facing the memory in S4. She was at the peak of her powers, they had Will and Kali. On top of that, they had information on the hive mind, its weaknesses, Upside Down and the Abyss.
Why were the letters written by Max never brought up again?
The writers wanted to show us that those letters were Max’s way of pushing her friends away. When Lucas tells Max that he doesn’t need a letter since he is right there to talk to, he is telling both Max and the audience that Max doesn’t need letters to communicate with her friends.
Welcome to the Upside Down. Can you guess your way out?
